Harris, Charlaine: Club Dead
ISBN: 0441010512

Sookie's boyfriend has been very distant-in another state, distant. Now she's off to Mississippi to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead-a little haunt where the vampire elite go to chill out. But when she finally finds Bill-caught in an act of betrayal-she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes.

Book three in the Southern Vampire Series, it had a few other books to live up to. Let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. Club Dead is a faced paced, romantic-action-mystery-supernatural thriller that will keep you on your toes, and will have you fall in love with every character.

First, we see Bill, the calm dependable vamp in Sookies life. We also see Eric, Bill's boss, and his two friends, Pam and Chow. Chow is a new oriental vampire that also works (with Pam) for Eric. The guy on the scene is Alcide, who is awesome. He's a werewolf who's sworn to help Sookie as she does some out of town investigative work.

Alcide had to have been my most favourite part of the book, and I really hope that he shows up in the future - and hopefully not just as a buddy. He's an excellent character that treat's Sookie like the princess she is.

Read this book, you will like it... if you're over 18, of course. It is "one of those" romance's!

Anthony, Piers: Bearing an Hourglass
ISBN: 0345313151

From the Publisher:

When life seemed pointless to Norton, he accepted the position as the Incarnation of Time, even though it meant living backward from present to past. The other seemingly all-powerful incantations of Immortality--Death, Fate, War, and Nature--made him welcome. Even Satan greeted him with gifts. But he soon discovered that the gifts were cunning traps and he had become enmeshed in a complex scheme of the Evil One to destroy all that was good....
This is the second book in Mr. Anthony's Incarnation of Immortality series, following after On a Pale Horse, and does not disappoint.

The basic premise is that Norton accepts the Office of Chronos (time) and ends up having to fight against Satan to keep the world running properly, and out of Satan's control. He goes on many adventures, including an escapade in space, fighting off aliens; a trip to a fantasy-type place where he fights dragons and evil sorceress', and all sorts of other mini-adventures which lead up to the end fight against Satan and his minions.

One of the most interesting things about this story is that Chronos lives backwards in time, and this is kind of funny. For one, all the conversations that he has while in backwards time are written backwards. I was actually quite happy when this part was finished. Egads - I got so frustrated reading backwards!

Mr. Anthony brings up excellent points about the struggle of good and evil, and what evil really is. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantastical books - something that surely isn't real, but will make you ponder things at the same time. I'd rate it as 14 yrs +, as it does have sexual innuendo (but no graphic sex) and mild cursing.
